Candidates seeking nomination by a party primary must file declaration of candidacy with state party chairman (if seeking federal, state, circuit, district, or legislative office) or county party chairman (if seeking county office) no later than this day by 5 PM; 116 days before the election. [§ 17-13-5(a)]

Petition for local ballot access must be filed with the Probate Office by 5pm on May 19, 2026, the date of the Primary Election.
A ballot access petition for an independent candidate must contain signatures of registered Alabama voters. The number of valid signatures on the petition must equal or exceed at least 3 percent of the qualified electors who cast ballots for the office of governor in the last general election (2022) in the political jurisdiction for which the independent candidate is seeking ballot access: statewide, countywide, or district.
